| NHS Direct Appoints Chief Executive 18.02.04 | Ed Lester will take up his new role from 1st March 2004, a month before the new NHS Direct authority comes into effect. From 1st April, the new authority will take over legal responsibility for delivering all NHS Direct services and the employment of its 3000 staff currently employed by host trusts across the country.
Prior to joining the NHS Ed Lester was Chief Executive for nine years from Motability Finance Ltd, the car scheme for people with disabilities. He brings with him a wealth of experience, which encompasses government an private business interface and a real passion for customer care and quality in service.
Of his appointment, Ed Lester, said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to join an organisation that has been created to make a difference to peoples' lives and be at the forefront of the exciting changes that are happening within NHS Direct and the wider NHS."
David Edmonds, Shadow Chairman of the new NHS Direct authority said "Ed Lester brings with him leadership and financial skills that will help NHS Direct become the newest special health authority and take it forward over the coming years to become the gateway to the NHS and also an integral part of the NHS. | | return to news archive |
